Half Line Miami Download is a super cool mashup of Half-Life two and Hotline Miami that sees you enjoying Gordon Freeman as he fights soldiers and the Blend armed with his trusty Gravity Gun. You may also like super mario level editor game
Half Line Miami Download is a video game mashup between Half-Life two and Hotline Miami.
The Gravity Gun is a joy to use — you just grab objects with the right mouse button, then hurl them forward with the left mouse button, mutilating anyone unfortunate enough to be in the way. The map dimensions in Half Line Miami Download are beautiful and big, offering an excellent 2D pixel art representation of Gordon Mason’s world. To counteract the massive map sizes, you receive a health bar rather than Hotline Miami’s one-hit install, but it is still satisfyingly challenging, especially in later levels. Also of note is the exceptional Hotline-esque 80’s synth soundtrack, which adds a wonderful sense of immediacy to the action. And if all this was not enough, there is even a fully functional level editor for players to manage their maps.
Also, it’s the ideal Half Life game that is very likely to be released anytime soon!
I’ve just booted Half Line Miami Download, a mashup of Hotline Miami and Half-Life as created by pupil Thomas Kole.
As somebody who has never actually played with Half-Life two or Hotline Miami (I did a single degree of Hotline Miami in a demo booth one time and seemingly own it on this here PC — who knew? Regarding the Half-Life games, I played with the first until a bit where you must climb to a ceiling vent which you reach by dragging a box over. I had killed something directly below the port, and their corpse became an immovable object so that I couldn’t place the box in the ideal spot to climb. After trying all of the solutions I could think of that, I gave up instead of the restart at my last save which was ages away. I tried the next game as part of the Orange Box on XBox 360 and got up to Water Hazard.) I’m well placed to describe Half Line Miami Download.
When I saw the launch trailer for Half Line Miami Download, I presumed it was a gag whipped up by someone bored with the wait for Half-Life 3, or a set of skinned levels constructed in Hotline Miami’s level editor. It’s neither.
And rather than the usual range of blunt objects and firearms, you are equipped with all the gravity gun, which functions exactly as it does in HL2: Pick up something–explosive barrels included–and then fire it at your enemies to turn them into pulp.
For players that are to the DIY thing, it includes a level editor also. And it is free!
“I created this game for a statement of my love for these two games, and as an experiment in game design,” founder Thomas Kole explained.
In my limited experience, I would describe it as more a Half-Life two versions of Hotline Miami. By that I mean the top down perspective, the loud, rowdy images and music and the graphic style are rooted in Hotline Miami. The fact that your weapon is a gravity gun and the setting of the opening degree is that the railroad station thing is where Half-Life comes in. It had been far clunkier to restrain compared to Miami, from what I recall, since you are sucking up objects like rubbish bins and briefcases with the right mouse button then throwing them at enemies with the left. The access step in that method makes it much simpler than bullets and cudgels are.
I also did not experience any hinged doors with which to crush other individuals up to now. I feel this was a Hotline Miami thing, yes?
Nevertheless, it was a fun thing to poke in, and I imagine the nostalgic attraction for the Half-Life two devotees amongst you (I’ve heard it was The Thing back in the day) might make it quite a beautiful play space to occupy in your Friday night.
Eight thematic levels, one for each region in Half-Life two
An Excellent soundtrack by SUNG (Soundcloud)
Relentless gravity-gun fun
