Northgard, even in its current Early Entry state, is one of many greater Viking games I’ve played recently. And I say that as somebody who has a genuine Viking raven banner. It plays much like oldschool Era of Powers while cutting back on micromanagement inside the nature of modern RTS style, and its own subtle art style captures the distinction between bleakness and surprise at the basis of Norse mythology.

Similarly, the decision about when to go to battle is never straightforward. Northgard offers several paths to win just as the Vikings did much more than the pillaging they’re infamous for. Some of them don’t also need you to hide axes inside your enemies’ skulls. You can get a win by creating a certain number of money selling resources you’ve a surplus of towards the other chieftains on the map. You can acquire a Status win by building an associated surprise and performing good accomplishments to gain King’s subject. A Lore win requires you to search for historical standing stones and ruins generate the benefits of the Norse gods and to complete the moderate technology tree.
